Normally I would have a Friday Reads video for you, but I didn’t get an opportunity to film one this week. But fear not, because I’ve got a quick written Friday Reads just for you!
Last week, I was reading The Hopefuls by Jennifer Close. I did finish it and holy moly, I absolutely loved this book! Beth is the perfect narrator and her skeptical approach to politics set just the right tone for the novel. Close did a phenomenal job writing the environments of D.C. and then Texas – I haven’t been to D.C., and I’m not a regular visitor to Sugar Land, but there was a sense of familiarity in Close’s writing. Between a great narrator, fantastic settings, and just enough drama, I could read this book FOREVER.
My Friday Reads this week is American Pastoral by Philip Roth. My mom and I are reading this for our March Pulitzer pick, and I’m about 150 pages in. I definitely have to work to read it – it’s exercises your brain (in a good way).
That’s what I’m reading this week! I’d love to know what you’re reading, if you have thoughts on these books, or if you’ve got recommendations for what I should read next, so let me know in the comments or over on Twitter.
Until next time, happy reading!
