Happy Thursday! I took it waaaay back with this week’s TBT and revisited the picture book about mommas.
Title: Are You My Mother? // P.D. Eastman, published 1960
Memories: This is a book I look at with love and affection, though I can’t pinpoint any particular memories. The little bird is so cute and adventurous as he searches for his momma. A general aura of nostalgia surrounds this one for me.
Thoughts as an adult: Oh it’s adorable and precious and much shorter than I remembered. I really appreciate the illustrations, much more than as a child, especially Eastman’s selective use of color. It’s certainly simplistic, but it still has a beginning, middle, and end, which I really love in even the most basic children’s books.
Does it hold up? Yes and no. It depends on what you are looking for out the story. It holds up if you want a sweet short story. If you are hungry for a deep, meaningful story…maybe you should pass on this one. Personally I still love this book and the illustrations and this one will be joining any future child’s library.
Until next time, happy reading!
