Week In Review 4/23/16

Each week we recap our posts and check out some news stories that piqued our interests.

Game & Read posts this week –

This Week In Bead Sprites: Peter made the droids everyone is looking for, and found some great pieces on Instagram. Submit your bead sprite photos for next week by emailing gameandred@gmail.com.

New Video Monday: We made a new discussion video for our Ni no Narnia series! We discussed childhood, emotions and cranky old C.S. Lewis in this installment.

The Canon: Peter revisited WarioWare, Inc: Mega Microgames for the GBA.

Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon TBR: Bonus video this week! Erin covers all of the books she is hoping to read this Saturday during the readathon.

#TBT: Erin reread Fudge-A-Mania which is, in her words, “The greatest book with fudge in the title.”

Now, here’s the news that caught our eye this week –

PS4 NEO: The PS4 will have a psuedo-successor! The PS4 NEO will have improved hardware for developers to utilize and will be able to utilize 4K TVs. Sony does seem concerned with making sure that all games work with the original PS4, but also plan to make developers create NEO mode options for those who purchase the new system. We don’t care much for this news, we don’t plan on buying one, and aren’t especially mad at Sony for making this. No current news on price or release date.

Eisner Awards Nominees: The Eisner Awards (the biggest award in comics) released their list of finalists this week and while I (Erin) am not a huge comic fan, this is especially exciting because Tillie Walden’s I Love This Part is nominated in Best Single Issue/One-Shot category. Tillie is one of my brother’s best friends from high school and she totally deserves the nomination (and award!). Go check out her work at http://www.tilliewalden.com/

Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon: IT’S TODAY! The Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon is exactly that – a full 24 hours of reading as much as you can/want in 24 hours. I will be participating (go check out my TBR video!) and you can keep up with all the readathon madness on Twitter and Instagram.

The Girl on the Train Official Teaser Trailer was released: Paula Hawkins made huge waves last January (2015) when she released The Girl On The Train. It was a big seller all last year and is being made into a movie starring Emily Blunt. They’ve released the first bits of the trailer this week and y’all, it’s going to be good. If you haven’t read the book, I definitely recommend it.

Star Fox Zero releases with animated short “The Battle Begins”:  Star Fox Zero has launched on the Wii U to somewhat lackluster reviews. However, if your dream was for a Star Fox to take a half step into anime, you’re in luck! Nintendo released a 15 minute short starring the Star Fox gang. I would actually watch this if it were a series, Nintendo, please make this a series.

Have a happy weekend!

-Erin & Peter
