Week In Review 4/16/16

New weekly post! Each week we recap our posts and check out some news stories that piqued our interests.

Game & Read posts this week –

This Week In Bead Sprites: Peter took a cool photo, but it would be “shellfish” of him not to mention the other great creators featured in this week’s pixel loving post.

Video: Alas, we were unable to post a video this week, it’s a very busy time for Erin, but we’ll be back on Monday.

The Canon: Peter revisited Alien Hominid, a 2004 console game that began as an in-browser Flash game.

#TBT: Peter took a look at the most confounding picture book he read as a child, The Eleventh Hour by Graeme Base.

Now, here’s the news that caught our eye this week –

Dark Souls 3, Ratchet & Clank out on PS4: Both have been reviewing well and high up on my “buy when I have extra cash” list. Ratchet & Clank also has a movie coming out at the end of the month, but I have a feeling it may not live up to the games high reviews.

Nintendo has a sale: Nintendo is notorious for keeping their prices very close to their original price. However, the eShop will occasionally have a pretty nice sale. If you have missed some of these games, now may be the time to pounce. We recommend  Mario Kart 7 (3DS), Mario Kart 8 (WiiU), SteamWorld Dig (Both), & Shin Megami Tensei IV (3DS).

Miitomo is successful: This may not be too surprising to some, but I was a little nervous about how financially successful Nintendo’s first mobile app would be. It’s not a  proper game, and while it incorporates the very recognizable Mii creation, it lacks the support of beloved Nintendo characters. If this success continues, I thinkNintendo will be able to create new and unusual apps/games.

Have a happy weekend!
