Book: Dinosaurs Before Dark (Magic Tree House #1) // Mary Pope Osborne, published 1992
Memories: I adored the Magic Tree House series as a kid. There were so many different adventures and it was super cool that these two kids could time travel. I remember this first book being an exciting adventure and I loved the idea that books can literally take you places. I remember thinking Annie was annoying, Jack was cool, and I wanted a tree house of my own (magic or not).
Thoughts as an adult: It’s definitely a children’s book. Hardcore written for children. I forgot how young Jack and Annie really are and how simplistic the story really is. They don’t go very far from the tree house in this one, and for some reason I remember them having more of an adventure. Like I said, it really is a children’s book for children, which I think is great.
Does it hold up? Not particularly. If I’m reading it to children, it is hardly the worst book to read. It’s cute and it wraps up nicely and there are friendly dinosaurs! Would I read more on my own? Nahhh.
Next week’s #TBT will be From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler by E.L. Konigsburg.
